When transporting over dimensional freight we collaborate closely with clients to ensure the exact details and requirements of the project; dimensions, weights, etc…. Legal dimensions vary by state and each shipment must meet the requirements for all states the route will encompass.
The specific dimensions and weight of the shipment will determine whether permits will be required and/or a certified escort or pilot car will be needed for individual state requirements. Their main purpose is to make sure the route is clear and keep the flatbed driver informed of road and traffic conditions.
In order to legally transport your heavy haul and/or over dimensional freight, it must be broken down to the smallest unit possible. For example, if you are shipping a piece a machinery that can be broken down into a smaller/lighter pieces, it must be broken down before transport.
In many cases, depending on the specific shipment, states have restrictions on when over dimensional freight can move on the highway. Limiting oversized freight from moving during peak driving times is common practice among states and transportation providers as an additional safety precaution.
Over dimensional & overweight transport generally has several special requirements. KPI will source the equipment, permits, and escort depending on the requirements of the shipment.
